Science
As a department we are dedicated to the study and use of the Scientific Process. Students in every grade take part in many “hands on” experiences as a way of learning and are given the opportunity to demonstrate it. The Science Process Skills that are woven throughout the year are:
- Apply scientific principles to design, construct, and test
- Plan purposeful investigations
- Create models to demonstrate understands
- Construct, use, and present arguments to support a claim
Science Courses
6th Grade
In 6th Grade Science, students consistently engage in science practices to make sense of their world around them.
7th Grade
The 7th Grade Science course includes topics from several different strands of science, including earth science, physical science, and life science. The class is organized around understanding basic scientific concepts.
8th Grade
8th Grade Science consists of Chemistry (structure of atoms/periodic table/chemical reactions), Physics (energy), Biology (genetics), and Astronomy (our solar system). Students will study concepts in depth, design their own experiments, and relate all concepts to the real world.
