Device Issues: What To Do?

If you are having technical issues, please try troubleshooting by having your child clear their cookies, remove any "fun" extenstions (games, wallpapers, emojis, cursors, etc...) first to see if that helps fix the problem. If that doesn't work OR your chrome book has mechanical issues, please contact Ms. Chubb to troubleshoot the problem. If it can't be fixed at school, Ms. Chubb will either place a ticket for the district tech people to solve the issue or send it up to be fixed if it's a mechanical problem.

Nuts and Bolts about Devices
For 8th grade students during the 2021-22 school year our Drake 1:1 program will remain the same since parents have purchased the devices for their child. At the end of your child's 8th grade year, all Jeffco filters and apps will be removed and your child will keep it for personal use. If a child is moving schools or out of the district, please contact Drake's DTL, Kori Chubb, to make arrangements.

For new 8th grade students, Drake will issue a device to be used for the school year only. It is HIGHLY recommended that you purchase a protective cover for the chromebook. The cover needs to fit a 100e Lenovo 1st or 2nd generation chromebook. Here is a link for a reasonably priced one through Amazon. Students will not keep the device over the summer. A device agreement will need to be signed by both parents/guardians and student and returned to the library before a device is assigned. Damages or loss of device/charger will result in a fine.

Attention 6th and 7th Grade Parents: Get Your Extended Warranty Now!

If you would like to purchase a warranty for your child's Chromebook, please click the warranty link below. There are a variety of choices that are well worth the cost, especially considering the steep price for keyboard and screen damage. They range from a one time only fix to one time each year to full coverage.

Example: For a touch screen chrome book the cost to replace a broken screen is $90 while a 4 Year UNLIMITED damage warranty is $137. Please note that you cannot add onto an existing warranty so if you only purchase for one year you can't add on another.

District Info for Purchasing Warranties

Attention Parents! If you don't have Internet and need it, please see below!

Comcast Internet Essentials is by far the best low-cost service that our district has found. The cost is $9.95 per month plus tax but there is no contract. For more information on Internet connection and alternatives if you don't have any access to the Internet, please go to Jeffco's website.

If you cannot obtain Comcast Internet Essentials, please contact Kori Chubb (Drake's DTL).

Internet Safety & Parent Controls

Parents! New parent controls on student devices are available through Securly. Please read the information below.

In addition to viewing your student's online activity on any Jeffco Public Schools device (Chromebooks and iPads), parents/guardians can now create allow/block lists for applications and websites using the SecurlyHome app. Functionality turned on in the app yesterday will allow parents to have more say over their student’s internet activity while the device is at home and/or while using other public WiFi services, such as libraries or cafes. You also have the ability to pause all internet activity on the device. Learn more about this option and how to use it on our SecurlyHome App webpage.
Here also is a helpful "how to" document made by a parent that describes what you can do with Securly.
